SYDNEY HARBOUR BEACHES AND BAYS, A FEW OF OUR FAVORITES
Archive Post - 7 September 2018
So Spring has finally sprung and in the Champagne Sailing office we are soo excited! We love Spring and the promise of warm weather, days spent lazing around at the beach and on boats, sailing Sydney Harbour. Enjoying sundowners with friends, and swimming in that beautiful water – nothing beats it!
We (obviously!) spend a lot of time on the water on Sydney Harbour and there are so many beautiful beaches and hidden bays to enjoy, some of which you can only reach by boat. During our charters we try to mix it up and visit different bays, not only to keep it interesting for the Crew but also because our charterers love seeing places away from the usual spots, which are often jam packed with boats. As much as possible we try to give our charterers a few options of where to stop for a swim, and some days we can have a stunning bay all to ourselves. Here are four of our favorites:
Store Beach, Manly
Only accessible by boat, Store Beach is found at Manly’s North Head. Store Beach was where ships used to unload and store their provisions for the neighbouring Quarantine Station. It is a beautiful sandy beach approx. 200m long and faces West. Fairy Penguins live here and it is a nesting ground for them, as well as being a great place for a game of volleyball! It is accessible by boat or you can rent a kayak from our friends at the Manly Kayak Centre.
Chinamans Beach, Mosman
This 250 metre stretch of sand is at the northern perimeter of Mosman, one of Sydney’s most genteel residential enclaves. Chinaman’s Beach is a great place for a relaxed swim and a picnic and is always quiet so is perfect for a romantic proposal, with sweeping views to Sydney Heads, and across to Clontarf. We often bring couples here to enjoy a quiet picnic or walk down the beach with a stunning view. Check out our new proposal package if you are thinking of popping the question soon!
Athol Bay, Mosman
Always a favorite for pretty much everyone, Athol Bay sits underneath Taronga Zoo with incredible views of Sydney City, Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House. In peak season it is always full of boats unless you are lucky enough to go midweek when you can sometimes enjoy it all to yourself. There is a small sandy beach and it is a great anchorage for boats, catamarans are able to get in really close to the beach so it is easy for everyone to swim off the boat to the beach. Nothing beats swimming in the green water or paddleboarding here with such an incredible view!
Milk Beach, Rose Bay
Situated behind Strickland House, this is another firm favorite of ours. With amazing views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, you can also watch the seaplanes take off from Rose Bay, and its another great anchorage out of the wind, when you’re out and about on a boat. Head to the beach and you will be mingling with the rich and famous, and genetically blessed peeps of Vaucluse and the Eastern Suburbs.
These are just a few of our faves, and beaches that we regularly visit on our charters. There are many more to mention, and we will follow up with another blog post on these soon.
